Intern Swap Day had been suggested before, prior to the summer but never really took off as an idea. At that time, all I really wanted to do was sew & sew better. I didn't really think that working anywhere else within the theatre would be of much advantage or interest to me. Nonetheless, with the re-programmed summer programming, ISD appeared once more.
I cut my losses & opted to join The Boys in the scene shop for the day.
Hence I became Joey, resplendent with Handlebar, for seven hours of a Tuesday.
It was fun and interesting. It made me appreciate just how well I know the 'shop, where to exactly find things, what things actually are. Vocabulary is important as is knowledge & speed.
I liked taking a new look at the pre-production process for Music Man whilst working alongside Luke & Joel onstage.
Oh yes, so the Set:

Lots of levels as designed by Brian Barker. Those steps at centre?
I drilled holes & screwed screws & sanded & slapped putty onto them.
.... All in a day's work.

Rock Hard. That's me. |
Afternoon came. I was assigned to staple-removing (at which I am a Pro, thanks Mum/CVPS!) & fabric-stretching over frames to create "windows" for the train.
Not my neatest collaboration with fabric in the world ever but the job got done.
That evening, we roomies headed up to the Diamond with Luke+Tommy to Go! Nuts!
The Flying Squirrels. |
Baseball. I've watched a fair few semi-professional games live before but this was my first taste of live action at a big stadium setting. It was .. okay. As in, they're not very good.
Three hours later....
A triumph for the New Britain Rock Cats. |
Please note above: Parker the Pig, the Flying Squirrels' live action mascot. Parker came out to greet us between innings along with Nutzy, being driven around the edge of the pitch in a wheelbarrow by some guys off Moonshiners. So very happening.
The double N is still bothering me. |
