Tuesday, Today:

Staff Meeting in Theatre Gym this morning (that’s the fourth & final space. A black box studio alongside the November in the VaRep centre.) Good to see a few more faces, work out further as to who’s who & hailing from which department.

I was told:

i)  “I thought you were mythical.”  ~  Bruce (Artistic Director)
after Katie reported that all her interns were finally here.

ii) “Welcome! We pelt you with candy.” ~ Tony
As Wonka’s SweeTarts flew their way across the room to greet me.

Excellent.

(VaRep have a newly installed “T”-loop into the November Theatre. Good for them!  :) )

We were all hunter/gatherers today. I went back to Willow Lawn with Marcia to costume-check for any mending for YTG.  Sure enough, there’s always a wonky bar coming loose. Things just happen.

Then working our way down the little list of things to buy,

AC Moore & Crafts
Sally’s
Venus (Hair & Beauty)
Target
(now re-named* - thanks to Marcia - as Tar-jét – like un petite French adventure.
It’s a sort of TKMaxx: household, clothing & so on. Where my comforter came from. And my stove kettle. Tea-drinking Brit must have Kettle. And the electric toaster. Toast-eating Brit cannot be arsed with broiling bread in the oven of a morning.
Needs must.)
&
    Goodwill
(thrift store chain: sweater & two pairs of pants for ten bucks. We rock).

Job’s a good ‘un.

All my c/shop colleagues seem to have Democratic passion/tendencies/leanings. There’s been a good amount of Romney-bashing on our journeys. Partially over his London visit, partially over his general muppetry. The countdown’s definitely on for the election. Fingers crossed.

Post Script:

I miss Jocelyn somewhat: there’s no tea-breaks in this here Costume Shop.
Never mind the ‘break’ element, as a concept: No tea. No coffee. 'Tis odd.

However, I am loving American enthusiasm. “Alright!” “Okay!” throughout our ‘shop discussions over costume development. (Don’t worry, it’s not catching just yet – I’m still answering with “Not bad” & “Pretty good” so far.
And there’s always the dubious – Sue: “That looks great!” ~ Me: “Do you think so?”
Seam allowance built in, I’ve only dealt with once before through Tailoring. I think it may well happen in all Simplicity patterns. It takes some getting used to, especially with the effect it has in changing the blocked pattern & interpreting the finished design. I had point issues today. Nothing a straight stitch & a good press couldn’t iron out though.)

PostPostScript:

My boxes are on their way!! (Thanks for the update Wraggley Ma!)

* Lauren later told me her dad calls Kroger, K-Roger. That’s sticking also.
