So I'd pretty much timed my arrival to coincide with the Richmond Folk Festival. Whereas today it might've been sensible to visit a few stores & buy a bedside cabinet & so on, who wants to prioritise that over live music down by the river?
Hence Lauren & I walked a few blocks & danced our way through kosher gospel & the Delta blues. Lauren, missing Mississippi, tried to teach me some funky dance move from back home, mostly featuring knee-bopping.
(I kind of like the fact that we four girls are all a little bit foreign being 'not from round these parts'. Even if I do talk funnier than most. Today Lauren learnt How to Queue.
I am fast becoming "the tea-drinking Brit" despite downing three cups of Waffle House coffee over breakfast.)
Look at the Delta blues man - Super Chikan - & his shiny!
I also ate my first Funnel Cake. Sort of like churros but not.
Every time after, when I applauded, a cloud of icing sugar arose.
I also fell in love with the entire bluegrass band & wanted to bring them all home. Seriously, so much joy & laughter between them on stage. They really do love their craft.
We rounded the evening off with 'bagpipes & ballet' on 4th Street. Some incredible lifts & a whole lot of tartan/check costume.
I did not make any standing ovations today but I did play my part.
I may have even whooped.
