.We do love a festival, any sort of feast day in RVA. 1846 was a most happening year.
Around the same era as Detroit was being sacked from serving as the capital of Michigan, something also went on South of the Border, involving amigos Mexican. Possibly some sort of slaughter or maybe a few liberated Mexicans. No-one is exactly clear - except on the date. (That's pretty much how my lesson of Cinco de Mayo went.)
So let's celebrate; hurrah!

This time last year the Manly Man had acquired House-with-Backyard. Customarily CdM has been Julie's affair to host but the onus was transferred to Mr. New HomeOwner for 2013 shenanigans. Best-laid intentions were therefore upheld although a double tech week did mean that invites were issued late on Wednesday & Saturday was a sort of scramble to shop & prep around showtimes. We did it though.
Beginning with the Guac:
which in itself led to a long-winded food-word fight: Cilantro! vs. Coriander! Coriander is seeds! vs. Coriander is Green! |
(Oh look,
A plant.)
& ending with some post-show Margarita testing because,
y'know, it's good to make sure it tastes at least alright for the guests.
I also learnt about the SCIENCE of Fish:
Ceviche!
Take raw fish, add lime juice, wait a few hours & voilà! 'cooked' & ready to eat.
Sunday afternoon was kind of chilly. Still that didn't altogether stop the eating al fresco.
I arrived post-show to join the circle of deckchairs, drinks & people outside.
(Katie & I had thought about acquiring a rainbow donkey but it was a little too last-minute. The possibilities of a pirate ship piñata from Tarjet sounded pretty damn awesome though.)

Tacos & tortillas and blankets;
fruity drinks (a much improved Margarita);
conversation & cake all followed suit.
Sarah's successful Tres Leches debut!
Mmm-milky...
