Bits of conversation on the journey north-west helped me work it out before arrival at Franconia-Springfield
to ride the Metro into the Big City towards Smithsonian.
(Tube Logic rules O.K.! It all made sense still.)
Lots of sunshine.
Lots of people-traffic.
And a pinkish haze towards the river.
The Manly Man had totally done his research, been on Bloom Watch & had determined upon this weekend as the weekend to go.
They lied to us.
"Peak Blooming Date Prediction:
April 6 – April 8 ... on which 70 percent of the blossoms of the Yoshino cherry trees that surround the Tidal Basin are open."
even as they disclaimed.
But that's okay.
It was still PINK, even with the Beginnings Of.
Plus buds are still pretty as they lend a sense of how glorious it's yet to be.
We had fun trying to locate & discover some of the "Seventy Per Cent".
^ There! |
More Pink to be found in the budding Tulip Garden too:
It's true!:
Lunch had us hopping back on the Metro to change trains in order to alight at Dupont Circle, a massive traffic roundabout-ish where several cafes & restaurants could be found.
We ended up eating in a bookshop-cum-eatery, Kramerbooks & Afterwords Cafe & Grill. They were all about the ampersands; big red curving artwork hanging from the glass ceiling of the cafe round the back.
Ginny was all about the identifying features to tie up her day's adventures.
The seventy-eight miles back to Richmond took a while. An accident on the I-95 led to massive congestion until the Manly Man figured a better diversion rowte. So we got to see the new & the old by travelling part-way home on the old Jefferson Davis highway.
(Service stations now better identified as rest stops.)
How much did you love DC? :D I stayed near Dupont Circle and loved the neighborhood. Also ended up at Kramerbooks for one of my "dates"! Next time you might enjoy ending up here too: http://boardroomdc.com/
