VaRep has a balcony on the front of the theatre, leading off from Wendy's office.
Ordinarily this viewing post would be auctioned off at the Fairytale Ball, which takes place in the spring to raise funds for the theatre.
Winter finds us still covered in scaff though so the optimum place at which to watch the Parade was a little obscured. The FTB bidders chose to rescind their prize, leaving space for myself & another staff member's daughters chance to check it out.
A little bit obscured but still viewable! |
The Grinch, currently playing at the recently re-opened, refurbished Landmark Theatre, made his entrance. |
Lots of Macy Day-style balloons throughout the Parade to admire!
Marching bands, both local & national, came to play.
I was most taken by the costumes of this String Band:
Lots of the marching bands from within state adopt a Cavalier-style dress:
& they often have flag dancers to accompany them too:
Fluffy boots! |
I'm a little intrigued by the 'rope' loops here. |
Lovely mounted police horses too. |
The emergency services & the forces are also represented.
We saw police, fire & ambulance - getting to use their sirens for fun for once!
Some fabulous floats:
Henrico County gave us a dancing corn on the cob & an igloo.
And LRW
(I saw them later at GardenFest, it's a kind of truck in which to pull your child around after you?!)
had the somewhat terrifying Alsatian.
(I think its his features.)
Local sports teams, adopted or otherwise, like VCU's Rams
& the Washington Redskins (courting their usual controversy).

Squeals of delight at the K-9 get-up. Dog in a Santa beard pulled by another pup. = Too cool for words! |
Sarah had forewarned me over the Star Wars costumes. So I was glad not to miss out
on them as I nipped back & forth upstairs, checking on the show laundry.
This so made me giggle. Costume malfunction! |
Legions of shimmying elves from a local dance school. |
And last, but by no means least, the end of the parade in spotting Santa. |
